Mirepoix
As we headed for Foix we deviated via Mirepoix which has an exceptionally attractive medieval arcaded market square. It also has an English shop – run by a Brit – where we bought some proper bacon. Perhaps this is a reflection of the British holiday home presence - we saw a lot of RyanAir Flights going into Carcassonne.
Foix, like so many French towns has a small aire where motorhomes could park up or even stay overnight for a small charge. It was very convenient for us to be able to park up the van and walk the 3 minutes into town.
We thoroughly recommend a quick stop here to see this pretty place.

Buildings like this one are on all four sides of the square, many have stalls shops and cafes unlike this one which is curiously empty.

Another view of the covered walkways.

This is the aire at Mirepoix - it is only for motorhomes and the building on the right ( just visible between the trees) is where the various tanks can be emptied and fresh water loaded on. You do have to use your own electricity though.
