Saklikent Gorge
The trip to Saklikent was a bit longer than required because we took a wrong turn (no sign) but we arrived in time for a lunchtime Efes seated on a raft at a café where we were able to park for free for the night (though we did eat a rather mediocre meal at the restaurant as recompense). We subsequently discovered that we had come in the "back " way, there is a well signed and better route from the main road.
Then we went for a trip up the gorge. The guide book was rather unclear on this so we were rather surprised that it involved getting arse-deep in cold water (or more if you are size of Sheila) while clambering over huge slippery rocks. Fortunately we had been picked up by Asif who provided both instruction and strong arms to help us travel about 1km up the gorge andback again. We paid him for his efforts, probably way over the top but he did keep the camera out of the water when a soaking looked likely and he did know where the deep bits were. He did however insist on calling Sheila "Mummy" which appeared to be a straight translation of a Turkish word - Sheila took it well.
The gorge is beautiful – it reminded us of the Slovenian Gorge we visited a few years back – and the walk was an excellent experience despite – perhaps due to – the cooling effects of mountain water lapping around the buttocks.
