Lithuania is a long way and your drive is not helped by having to go around the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. I understand that one can get permission to drive through but word is that it is slow and a bureaucratic exercise to do so, paperwork, border control, customs etc. We took a ferry to Denmark and then drove through Germany and Poland.
Roads in Lithuania are not bad, and there are some motorway standard roads between Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. The main road in from Poland from Augustow to Kaunas is very busy, lots of lorries and not much in the way of overtaking possibilities. There are no toll roads in Lithuania.
Camping in Lithuania is not a problem, although you wont find anything in the Acsi book or the Camping Cheque book and only a few sites in the big european Reisemobil book but you can find info on line and once you get into Lithuania you should find quite a bit of information.
There is a camping map of the Baltic States which we picked up at the first site we visited.
You could try www.camping.lt which gives a list of campsites. We had downloaded a list of sites for Lithuania Latvia and Estonia from the website of some people who visited a few years ago which we found helpful, although did not always agree with their comments. This is www.langdale-associates.com
Many people could speak some English and we never had any problems communicating. Our golden rule when stuck on language is to find a teenager, they can usually understand English in this internet age, older people can speak German or Russian.
While our trip of the Baltic States was 8 weeks in length it really was not long enough to tour these countries properly so we did not get to see all that Lithuania has to offer - pretty towns and good national parks. As a result we only spent a few days in Lithuania as part of our Baltic States tour in 2013, the following are links to the other Lithuanian pages
Vilnius
Hill of Crosses
Klaipeda
