Dreveny artikularny kostol
We visited Dreveny artikularny kostol - an articulated wooden church of the Evangelic Lutheran Church of Slovakia. This style of wooden church is quite different from wooden medieval churches and the Orthodox wooden churches that we were to visit later on this trip. This church is one of only three of this type in the country. This huge church was made of wood because there was a law that forbade counter reformation groups from building with "hard materials".This was a stunning building that had been relocated to its present position in 1982 when its old site was due to be flooded by a dam. Unfortunately there was a ban on taking photos inside (probably another counter reformation law) and there were two little old ladies guarding the interior and listening out for camera shutters.
The church is not far away from a main road and there is a good car park - access with our larger motorhome not a problem.

We cheated, she coughed, he clicked.
The church is 43 metres long. The steeple did have three bells dating from 18th century but these were destroyed in WW1. The new bells were created in 1920s and are called Believe, Love and Hope.
