Burgos
Burgos was somewhere we have had on our "to do" list for some time and we managed to make it there in the autumn of 201.The campsite (Fuentes Blancas) is in town close to a cycle track running through a wooded area by the river and which meant a safe and manageable trip into the city centre.
We only stayed a couple of days so that we could visit the cathedral there which is marvellous and I am told that it has been constructed in the French
style which is possibly why parts reminded me of Chartres. Burgos is on the road
to Santiago de Compostella and we saw plenty of pilgrims – a big rucksack and
a stick with a scallop shell identifies most walkers. Camped near us were
three British women who spend a few weeks each year doing part of the walk, they
hope to finish next year. The cathedral is one of the best we think we have ever
seen and we have seen a lot in the last few years.
The campsite is pretty good with nice facilities including wifi at a reasonable rate and a bar next door which is used by the locals. Getting there involves driving right into town and unfortunately the road layout has recently been changed so that the satnav instructions could not get us there, so we had to follow the signs. Because Burgos is an all year round attraction the campsite does not feature in the out of season guides such as ACSI or Camping Cheque books but you can find it at campingburgos.com
