Aspendos
Aspendos theatre
On leaving Camping Osay we intended to travel to the Saklikent Gorge but en route Sheila spotted a reference to the Roman theatre at Aspendos and – after an initial long and fruitless search – we found this splendid sight, described accurately in the guidebook as the best preserved Roman theatre of the ancient world – it seats up to 15,000. An opera season was advertised but – to our great disappointment – it didn’t start until the following week.
We are told that the acoustics and lighting produce a magical experience.
The opera concerts etc is on all summer so if you are in the area then check out what is on, it is possible to overnight in the carpark there.
